Interview #19 - New Mr. Geylang - Raj

Mr. Geylang Raj (center) after ROR's recent show.

Hello everyone.

The next wrestling interview is an exciting one for this blogger.

A new wrestler from Singapore, Raj, is making major strides in pro wrestling.  Raj wrestles for Ring Of Rebirth, the newest of the three promotions in Singapore.

Before continuing, doing interviews on the blog has been a delight.  Ring Of Rebirth, along with Filipino Pro Wrestling and several others, have been very open and comfortable for how the interviews are done.  Thank you everyone for having the confidence in this blogger.  It's much appreciated.

Back to Raj, he's out of the ROR Training School and has been coached by The Eurasian Dragon and Nyc.  His first ever match was eye opening for this blogger.

Raj took on Ahmad Arif, a seasoned wrestler.  What I saw was someone that didn't look like a "rookie" or someone very new.  Raj defeated Ahmad Arif in a one fall match and things really took off.  The event took place at the ROR Experience 3 show in mid January.

Raj was rewarded later on, not just from the match he won.  After the January show, it was announced that Mr. Geylang, one of the initial wrestlers with the promotion, would retire from in ring action.  Mr. Geylang was trying to return from a serious injury he actually suffered in a training session.  For the fans who liked Mr. Geylang, he's still very much with the promotion and helping out The Eurasian Dragon.

The control of what is the Geylang Syndicate is now led by Raj.  He, along with Geylang Green and Alfred are the group.

Just last weekend in only his second match, Raj came up victorious again!  He defeated BGJ in a first round tournament match for the initial ROR Championship belt.  This blogger will never say that this was an upset win nor someone overlooked a newer wrestler.  I look at it is a one on one battle and who will win on a given day.

This fan talked with both The Eurasian Dragon and with Raj shortly after the show and got approval and agreement to do this.  Believe me, in talking with Raj, it is so refreshing to feel the energy of what is happening for him now and his future.  Here is the interview...

Wayne: When did you first begin to train at a wrestling school, academy or camp?

Raj: I started training on the 15th of Nov 2024. I wanted to have a tryout in a wrestling school in singapore. I met a colleague her name is Joy. We talked a lot about wrestling. She introduced a wrestling school (ROR). I did a trail class, and I loved it. Wayne: When did you first watch pro wrestling on television, video or stream. Do you have a favorite promotion that you follow?

Raj: The first wrestling match that I saw was Beth Phoenix vs Mickie James - Raw 2008. I don't really have a favorite wrestling promotion. I love all kinds of wrestling around the world. But if I had to choose a favourite, it would be NXT and Ring of Honour.

Wayne: Who is your favorite wrestler growing up or even currently?

Raj: (1) Athena is one of the greatest female wrestlers. I love watching her in the ring. 2) The Statement Andruew Tang. He is the Godfather of Singapore Pro Wrestling. 3) Mickie James is one of the greatest female wrestlers of all time. Her iconic feud with Trish Stratus and Beth Phoenix is one of my favourites.

Wayne: What are your thoughts on pro wrestling with Ring Of Rebirth and/or for the matter, wrestling in Singapore?

Raj: Singapore pro wrestling is growing all through the years, and it will continue to grow. The wrestling community in Singapore is passionate. With the guidance of our current coaches and trainers in Singapore, I believe that we can expand and evolve. The future appears bright. We might witness the emergence of more local wrestlers and possibly even bigger events that draw attention.

Anyone active in, or curious about the Singaporean wrestling scene is in for an exciting experience.

Wayne:  One more question.  How many hours do you train per week since you are in school right now?

Raj:  I usually train in the ring for about three to four times a week.  My classes are in the morning.  Once that is done, I head to my part time job.  I'm a gym coach for kids.  The job ends about 6pm to 7pm.  After that, I'll head to the ring.

Wow! Thank you so much for the interview and sharing your input regarding wrestling, with Ring Of Rebirth, and the wrestling scene in Singapore. This fan believes in you, the pro wrestling scene with ROR, Singapore and for that matter, all of Southeast Asia. All the best for you and everyone involved now and the future!
