Filipino Pro Wrestling Pro Rankings Follow Up

Hello everyone.

Wanted to update those who read my last post on the FPW Power Rankings.  There has been some input regarding what appears to be the first for Filipino Pro Wrestling.

This blogger receives a magazine about every eight weeks known as Pro Wrestling Illustrated.  Near the back of the program, PWI lists in what they believe is their top ten contending wrestlers to a promotion.  I believe there are a group of people associated with the magazine who rates them.  Most of the time, since this fan watches WWE and AEW, the ratings are really bunk!  However, that is just my opinion.

Honestly, the other day, I saw the Power Ratings for the first time.  This may be a first for a Southeast Asian wrestling promotion.  However, there will always be questions.  The first one is who is doing the selections?

We do know that Jeff Cobb is the FPW Champion.  He did defeat Mike Madrigal who held the title since its inception or 547 days!

Normally, a wrestler who lost a title, gets a return match for the title.  That is a general consensus in the pro wrestling world.  Normally, that would mean that Mike Madrigal would be the number one contender.

However, Quatro is listed as number one on the power rankings.  This blogger has heard from various fans that he was "hand picked" to be number one!  All this fan can say is that in 2024, Quatro was 4-1 (including tag matches).  If a won-loss record is only determined, Quatro may have an argument in being at the top of the list.

Mike Madrigal was 3-2 overall including tag matches.  However, one of the losses was the defeat to Jeff Cobb of New Japan Pro Wrestling.  Mike has a couple of arguments.  One, Mike did not lose a singles match to an FPW wrestler.  Two, a championship defeat normally means a return match for the title whenever the title match takes place again!

Chino Guinto didn't lose an FPW match in 2024.  He felt that he needed to step up his game.  He was 5-0 including winning a Triple Threat Match to close the year.  Chino may have an argument regarding who's the number one contender.

Robynn, in this blogger's opinion, has the best argument.  Early last April, she was scheduled to face Mike Madrigal for the FPW Championship.  Unfortunately, she injured her knee and the match was off.  Mike mentioned that she would get a title shot at the earliest opportunity.  Robynn is back, and better than ever according to sources.

Cali Nueva ranks number five.  According to sources, his record is 2-3 including tag matches.  I'm not sure what other wrestlers such as Duke Ortega, Ralph Imabayashi and others have done but there could be an argument here as well.

All this blogger knows is this.........I'm glad that I didn't come up with the power rankings.  However, this blogger does have an idea how to resolve, who may or may not be, the number one contender for the title held by Jeff Cobb.  The upcoming Astig show is just over one month away on Sunday, March 23rd.

Hello everyone.

Filipino Pro Wrestling has announced their first FPW Astig show for 2025.  The event will take place on Sunday, Match 23rd at the Baked Studios in Makati City.  Will check on this but this blogger believes the start time is 2pm.

Jeff Cobb, of New Japan Pro Wrestling, and the current FPW Champion, has been announced for a future show, not the one in March.  The question right now is who will face him for the title when he does return?  Could it be a return match with former champion, Mike Madrigal?  Could it be Chino Guinto who did not lose an FPW match in 2024?  Or could it be a surprise wrestler that we have not seen before?  We will have an answer in the coming days.

Tickets for the event are on sale, including an Early Bird Rate, until Sunday, March 2nd.  For more information on the show and tickets, please visit the FPW - Filipino Pro Wrestling Facebook page.  Also, FPW can be viewed on several social media platforms including Instagram.  Also, nearly the first two years of FPW matches can be viewed on You Tube.  Thank you.
