Hello everyone.
One of this blogger's favorite tag teams in all of Southeast Asia comes from Thailand. SETUP Thailand Pro Wrestling is now in its sixth year as a promotion. This fan has mentioned about the promotion this past January during their five year anniversary. It's always fun doing posts about their shows and results. Also, this fan has been fortunate to get to know the wrestlers, staff and the great fans in BKK and the region.
SETUP's The Good Deal is a fun tag team to watch. I'm sure teams such as St. John's Innocent College and, perhaps, Calamari Drunken Kings, may not agree. However, the fans are, more than receptive, of their athletic ability and style in the ring. The team has an amazing type of chemistry, something that you don't see in a lot of tag teams.
Starting with P'Suchart (today Mr. Suchart), he and Flame Drake are huge wrestling fans who both went to SETUP's first ever show back in January 2020. From there, P'Suchart, his eventual tag team partner, Anont Alonzo and Bital Hasdin, would be involved with the promotion. The three would be SETUP's first trainees.
This fan is certain that the Covid pandemic affected many people and promotions throughout the world on any wrestler's progress. However, Anont and P'Suchart were able to get through this rough time.
In January 2022, P'Suchart would make his wrestling debut against Paksa in an exhibition match. This was after doing some refereeing in a couple of shows. For any new wrestler in SETUP, Paksa, a wrestler and a trainer for SETUP, would be the perfect matchup.
After his debut match in April, he would win SETUP's first belt. Some people night think of the SETUP 24/7 title as something "junky." However, this fan looks at it as a stepping stone to bigger and better things.
Anyway, P'Suchart won the title and would hold it until losing to Monomoth, one of the major stars of the promotion. He would win it back, only to lose it to Ken Warren of the Manila Wrestling Federation (Philippines).
After a few months, P'Suchart would win the rematch over Warren at The Circus Studio in March 2023. He would win it for a third time! He would keep the title for about two months before losing in a Triple Threat Match in May. Though he hasn't attempted in winning back the belt up to now, he had bigger things in mind. This fan will share that later after talking next about Anont Alonzo.
As was mentioned early in the post, Anont and P'Suchart, along with Bital Hasdin were the first new trainees. Anont's first match happened at SETUP's 10 Years Of Wrestling event. It was a mat event at the Family BJJ (Motorway Dojo) in October 2022. Anont (who went by the name Nont at the time) defeated Akaradeth (now known as Kevin Weng). It was an exhibition match where both wrestled in an event for the first time.
Nont would lose and win in the next two shows. After losing to Akaradeth in November at The Circus Studio, he would rebound and defeat Kappa Kozo, a more experienced wrestler in December on a mat format.
In January, at the EP11 show, Nont would defeat Akaradeth and he would now be on the SETUP roster as Anont Alonzo. Two months later, he would make his debut in a tag match with Matcha against Kappa World Order. KWO would defeat them in controversial order but you could see the athleticism of Alonzo in the match.
After the May 2023 EP13 show, Anont Alonzo and P'Suchart would become part of a tag team known as The Good Deal. In July at the EP14 show, The Good Deal would defeat another tag team, St. John's Innocent College. The latter team had just teamed up for the first time in the May event.
In September 2023, there would be an IWA SETUP Tag Team Tournament to determine a winner of the vacant title. There would be a semi-final and final match. Nine teams from throughout Southeast Asia took part. Each match was a Triple Threat variety.
The Good Deal would become the 10th tag team, and first in Thailand history to win the titles. They defeated their rivals, St. John's Innocent College and the Barbie Boys in a Triple Threat match.
One month later, in October, The Good Deal would defeat St. John's in their first defense of the title.
However, they would lose in a previously not scheduled - no DQ - Bonus Match to the Calamari Drunken Kings. The match occurred after CDK's, Chris Brookes said some nasty things about wrestlers, fans, Thailand and SETUP in general. The Good Deal came out, after hearing all this, and eventually challenged CDK. It would be the only time that The Good Deal would lose in a championship match to date. It was something the this tag team did not forget over the winter and spring.
At the following July's IWA / SETUP 30th Anniversary show, The Good Deal got their rematch and revenge against CDK and Dr. Gore & UltraMantis Black in a Triple Threat match . Since then, they've defended the belts successfully on at least four occasions against teams throughout the region.
In March, The Good Deal will defend the IWA SETUP belts against Jack N' Cheese from Singapore Pro Wrestling. This team has been on the doorstep of titles over the past year in Singapore and Vietnam. The team will make their debut in Thailand at the SETUP EP21 Double Cross show on March 22nd.
I'm sure Anont Alonzo and Mr. Suchart will be ready for this match, and in more ways than one.
