WUW Philippines Master Clash Update #9

Hello everyone.

A huge match has been added for WUW Philippines show, Master Clash.  The pro wrestling show takes place on Saturday, April 5th at the Brawl Pit Bulusan, Quezon City, beginning at 6pm.

The pinay women take the mat as PUSO Wrestling HSSL's Joya will go one on one with MSG's Chelsea Marie.

These two have tangled in the past at PUSO Wrestling's Heart 2 Heart show last September.  This definitely has the makings of a good rivalry not just with WUW Philippines and PUSO Wrestling, but all of Pinay Wrestling.

For tickets, please visit the World Underground Philippines - WUW Philippines Facebook page.  Thank you.

Feature On Jake De Leon

Jake De Leon vs. Chelsea Marie at PUSO Wrestling's first show, Unang Tibok in August 2024.  It was the main event in PUSO Wrestling's first ever show.

Hello everyone.

Every wrestling fan this blogger knows of will likely remember their first wrestling show.  I've been kind of lucky because of seeing my first one in North America and my first in Asia.

Hopefully, this wrestler won't mind my sharing about him and his wrestling career throughout Southeast Asia.  His name is "Mr. Philippine Wrestling"  Jake De Leon.

Jake, also known as JDL, has wrestled professionally for a little over 10 years now.  In the independent Southeast Asia promotions, wrestlers don't wrestle too many matches within their promotion.  However, Jake has wrestled over 100 times now in his career.

He began with Philippine Wrestling Revolution when the promotion began in September 2014.  Over that time, he won the PWR Title on two occasions as well as the PHX title.

When Covid-19 hit the planet in 2020, there was definitely an uncertainty whether pro wrestling would even come back.  When the Covid pandemic was lifted in 2022, PWR was in a holding pattern.  Jake would eventually go over to the Manila Wrestling Federation.  He would wrestle in several of their shows.

In September that year, Jake would win the vacated Manila Wrestling Federation title in a three way match at the Road To Fate show.

In December, Jake would lose to Fabio Makisig at the Niche Buena show at the PETA Theater.

After that, De Leon would make sure that he stepped up his game and physique.  There would be more time in the gym, etc.

One year later, in the December 2023 show, Jake De Leon would recapture the MWF Pinoy Wrestling Championship in an eight way elimination tag match.  He would remain the championship until the Manila Wrestling Federation ended operations in May 2024.

This would not stop Mr. Philippine Wrestling however.  There was the May 26, 2024 Dexcon show at the Brawl Pit Bulusan.  Jake De Leon faced former NJPW Champion, Zack Sabre Jr. in what was termed a match for the ages.

The match ended in a 30 minute draw and it's still talked about today as the greatest pro wrestling match ever seen in the Philippines!

In fact, a few weeks back, a group called Voices Of Wrestling ranked this match number 47 of Match Of The Year rankings for 2024!  This match was ranked higher than the Will Ospreay-MJF match last August as well as the Samu Zayn-Gunther WWE match at Wrestlemania!

Jake has been a major part of the new PUSO Wrestling brand as well as with Dexcon and WUW Philippines shows.  Also, he's traveled to Singapore, Japan, and most recently, Thailand for important shows with various promotions.

In closing, this blogger has said time and again that Jake has been the ultimate professional in and out of the ring.  We've talked a little before and after shows and has taken the time out to share wrestling moments.

Honestly, it will be interesting to see what Jake De Leon has in his future.  There is the WUW - Philippines Master Clash show next month in a tag team encounter.  He will be teaming up with Fabio Makisig against Nigel San Jose and Robin Sane.  The winner of this match will face a familiar face in Zack Sabre Jr. and El Phantasimo in Dexcon's May show!

Certainly, there could be another wrestling championship in mind!  Maybe he might be thinking of visiting another country.  All we know is that JDL will entertain the fans and do well whatever show and whatever country he visits.  That is for certain!

WUW Philippines Feature - TZK

Hello everyone.

Continuing with Tag Teams throughout Southeast Asia, there is one tag team that this blogger witnessed in December 2023.

TZK (Turn Zero Kill) is a tag team that wrestles with World Underground Wrestling - Philippines.  The team of Ken Cifer and St. John Martin are a powerful team with good wrestling skills.

Both wrestlers began their careers with WUW - Philippines and wrestled in the promotion's first event back in October 2019.  The event, WUW PH - Dojo Storm took place at the Brawl Pit Bulusan, its home today.  WUW PH shares its home with PUSO Wrestling, the newest promotion in the Philippines along with Dexcon events.

Cifer and Martin wrestled in singles matches in the first show and would continue on through this point.  Also, they would wrestle with the, now defunct, Manila Wrestling Federation until the promotion ended in May 2024.  Besides WUW PH, they are also on the PUSO Wrestling roster.

TZK would win the World Underground Wrestling Tag Team Championship in December 2023.  The MWF Noche Buena show was likely the biggest show the company had following the Covid epidemic.  A sellout crowd saw the show at the Power Mac Spotlight Center.  The win began a streak of over 450 days of having the belts.

During the streak, there was a added stipulation (somewhat like the Freebird Rule or more recently, The New Day).  In one of their tag matches, a newer wrestler by the name of Silent D subbed for Saint John Martin in a no disqualification match.  That wouldn't make any difference since TZK went on to win the match.

Turn Zero Kill has made five successful defenses of the title, all in the Philippines.  They have been against good quality teams.  I believe the Gemini Kings (Romeo and Main Maxx) along with the two wrestlers from Kyushi Pro Wrestling in Japan were very stiff competition.  Also, their 450+ days and five title defenses of the title are the most since the title was established in 2022!

Their next defense of the title will be this coming Sunday at the WrestleStorm 2 show put on by Dexcon at the Brawl Pit Bulusan.

Aaron Liwanag and Dabid Ravena are two strong wrestlers that are hungry for a championship.  This could very well be TZK's biggest test.  They have not teamed together to this blogger's knowledge but anything can happen.  Both are strong singles wrestlers that potentially can be a great tag team.

The fans who will be at the Brawl Pit Bulusan and will watch on Triller TV eventually will find out the outcome.  It should be a good one.

More About Toudoukan

Hello everyone.

The other day, World Underground Wrestling made an announcement about a Japanese company named Toudoukan.

You might want to check WUW - Philippines and Google the company on this.  They are involved with trading cards, action figures, shirts and more.

Also, it appears that Matchmakers - Linus and Miguel are at it again.

In the meantime, please check the groups mentioned on the last paragraphs.  Thank you.

World Underground Wrestling Tag Team Match

Hello everyone.

After the last post regarding a match that was added for WrestleStorm 2, this blogger needs to share and report the match in a more professional way.  The other stuff that is going on is a distraction.

For those that don't know what I'm talking about, a WUW - Philippines Tag Team Championship match has been added for the WrestleStorm 2 show on Sunday, March 16th.  The venue is the Brawl Pit Bulusan in Quezon City beginning at 6pm.

The reason doing this is the respect this fan has for all four competitors in the WUW Tag Team Championship Match.  Also, it is, I believe, what the fans want to read.  So to the fans, and wrestlers who read the last post, bloggers aren't perfect and they do make mistakes.  Just ask my writing hero, Bill Apter who's the guru for Pro Wrestling Illustrated. This blogger would much rather follow how he writes posts rather than the one who rates matches with stars.....if you know what I mean.

Beginning with TZK in St. John Martin and Ken Cifer, there is quite a bit to share here.  The team won the World Underground Wrestling Tag Team Titles in December 2023 at the PMC Spotlight Theater.  It was a historical night of pro wrestling action in Circuit Makati.

TZK has defended the titles at least four times and have taken on all comers.  As of this post, TZK has held the titles for 442 days and counting.  Some people might say that they haven't defended it enough.

Pro wrestling is a little different in Southeast Asia compared to America and not in a bad way.  To the fans are reading this for the first time, independent promotions in America hold their shows about the same amount of time.  Mark my words folks.  A promotion not far from where I live, Big Time Wrestling in Newark has four to five shows a year.  Check it out!

The upcoming match between TZK versus Dabid Ravena and Aaron Liwanag is not exactly going to be a pushover in any way.  This blogger has seen both Dabid and Aaron in action several times live.  Both wrestlers are definitely hungry for any kind of title.  Dabid Ravena was very close to winning a title in the December 2023 Noche Buena MWF  event.  Aaron Liwanag was in the PUSO Wrestling Championship Tournament final this last November.  Definitely the challengers smell gold, have everything to gain, and nothing to lose.

This will definitely be one banger of a match........guaranteed!

Who's The Match Maker?

Hello everyone.

For those of you following the latest Dexcon pro wrestling  announcement, things happened very quickly in the last 24 hours.  However, let's look back at how all of this began.

Linus Santos is the Match Maker for Dexcon events.  As this blogger has mentioned before, he has been on top of all Dexcon events since Dexcon began doing shows in August 2023.

Miguel Navarro, a great pinoy wrestling fan since World Underground Wrestling - Philippines began in 2019, was promoted to WUW-PH Match Maker just a little over a week ago.

A few days ago, there was a delay regarding an announcement by Linus.  It had something to do about a basketball situation in America.  Something like a team in Los Angeles.  Something like the Lakers.  Something like a General Manager who had a trade rescinded.  Well, the announcement was supposed to be made last weekend but was delayed.  Or was the announcement was that the announcement would be delayed?

Well, the weekend went by and nothing further happened.  This blogger received a tip that something was going to happen and to be ready for it.

That was when Miguel, checking in from Japan, made the huge announcement.  It was announced by the "Dexcon team" in Miguel's words regarding the tag team match.  Yoshi Tatsu and Jake De Leon will take on the team of Fabio Makisig and Jomar.

Linus, when learning of the news, was let's say, not happy of what happened.  This brings up some very interesting conversation.

Can Linus cancel the match since he's the Dexcon Match Maker?

Did Miguel pull a fast one on Linus and provided something that the fans would like to see because of Linus's delay?

Before I go on here, this blogger is not a Match Maker.  And, though I am a wrestling fan, I will not take sides on the matter.  The blog is interested in the facts.  I will say that Linus is the Match Maker for Dexcon.

At the same time, it is the opinion of this blogger, that pro basketball issues in another country has nothing to do with pro wrestling in Southeast Asia!  Does Linus have the final say on decisions as a Match Maker or is it the Dexcon team?

It is also the opinion of this blogger, that a Match Maker of another promotion doesn't override someone to promote an additional match.  In the defense of Miguel, did the Dexcon team give him the right to promote the match or does Linus have the final authority?

Well, I don't know who is the Match Maker here.  There are a lot of questions to be answered here.  However, since this my blog, I would like to hear from you, the fans!  What would you like to see?  Now, here's your chance to provide some feedback.  Here are the following scenarios.

1.  I would like to see the tag team match between Jake De Leon and Yoshi Tatsu vs. Fabio Makisig.

2.  Linus should cancel the match and make another decision.

3.  Other.

Since anomynous in answering these scenarios on my blog is not the best way, please Facebook message me with a number anytime.  This way, it would be easier.  Also, your name will not be mentioned when tallying.  If your answer is other or #3, please share what your alternative to #1 and #2 is.

While the two Match Makers decide what course of action that is going to be taken here, it would be interesting what the fans think.  Remember, wrestling IS for the fans.

Enough said!

Hello everyone.

The show is scheduled for Saturday, March 16th at the Brawl Pit Bulusan in Quezon City. The show is slated to start at 6pm!

Also appearing at the event are Yoshi Tatsu, one of the biggest superstars in Japanese Pro Wrestling history.

The Super Friends (Super P and El Kapitunero), coming off a show in Singapore, will be appearing at the Brawl Pit Bulusan awaiting action.

Finally, Robin Sane, is aiming for redemption in a career defining moment against an opponent yet to be named.  Last November, at the SETUP Thailand show, Robin, along with Monomoth, nearly won the IWA SETUP Tag Team belts against The Good Deal.  It is still a match that has been talked about in Thailand today!

February One Year Ago

Inside of the Brawl Pit Bulusan in Quezon City, PH.  Photo courtesy of Dexcon.

Hello everyone.

Here is some of what happened in SEA Wrestling history one year ago around this time.

Vietnam Pro Wrestling - Venomshank (Dokuga and Rensho), the VPW Tag Team Champions, were to face The Juicy Boyz (The Wonderboy & Miles Karu) from Malaysia Pro Wrestling for the VPW Tag Team Championship.  The Juicy Boyz would go on to win a title later in the year.

SETUP Thailand - Jonathan Johnson became the SETUP Openweight Championship in a three-way. Matcha became the SETUP All Asia Women's Title, also in a three-way.

Singapore Pro Wrestling - Black Arrow had just won the SPW Singapore Title.  Also, The Horrors (Da Buthcherman & Dr. Gore) had won the Southeast Asia Tag Team Title.

Grapplemax Pro Wrestling Singapore - Hotshot would make a couple of successful defenses of the Grapplemax Openweight Title since winning it in late 2023.

Dexcon (Philippines) - Dexcon had announced in December that they would sponsor their second show, WrestleStorm.  The show would eventually sell out and was a huge success!

Filipino Pro Wrestling - FPW would announce their first show, FPW Astig.  It was announced that the main event, the champion - Mike Madrigal would face Thiago for the title.

Ring Of Rebirth Singapore - ROR would announce their first two shows in March, RoR #6 and #7 at the Goldpine Industrial Building.

TOP Dojo (Thailand) - TOP Dojo would announce their first show, "A New Dream."  It would take place in March at the Motorway Dojo before an enthusiastic and sellout group in attendance.

Malaysia Pro Wrestling - Some members of MYPW were preparing for an event, Causeway Jam, featuring some wrestlers from their promotion and Grapplemax at the Grapplemax Studios.  One week later, they would host their first show, New Breed in Malaysia.

World Underground Wrestling - Philippines - Several wrestlers took part in the Dexcon event in March.  After a couple of other wrestling shows, they hosted their own show, Tagay Na!

APAC Wrestling (Malaysia) - The promotion had just completed a very successful show, APAC Enter The Dragon before a capacity crowd at Spacerubix.

SPW's Next Show

Singapore Pro Wrestling will be hosting their next show, SPW Unchained on Friday, March 7th.  The location is the Foo Chow Building, Singapore, beginning at 7:30pm.  Doors for the event will open 30 minutes earlier at 7pm.

The theme with the chains is interesting.  Will SPW use chains as ropes as, for example, World Underground Wrestling - Philippines for the upcoming show?  Or, is it something else entirely?

In the weeks ahead, we will find out!  For more regarding the show, including ticket information, please visit the SPW Facebook page.  The post that you are reading will have upcoming information soon.

Also, SPW is on other media outlets including You Tube.  Please check them out and, if you haven't done so already, please subscribe!  Thank you.

Tagay Na! Results

Hello everyone!

Here are the results below from Sunday night's World Underground Wrestling - Philippines show, Tagay Na!  The event took place before an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and great gathering of Pinoy wrestling fans at the Brawl Pit Bulusan in Quezon City.

Also, I have some thoughts below the results.  Please, if you have a chance, to read it!

Fabio Makisig d. Isaiah Valencia.

Nigel San Jose d. Dabid Ravena and Zera.

Main Maxx d. Silent D.

Jake De Leon d. El Kapitunero.

Robin Sane d. Pinoy Bulldog

and

TZK (St. John Martin and Ken Cifer) d. High Proof (Razael and Kenta Terror) and retain the WUW Tag Team Championship.

Note:  Silent D has become a part of TZK and can defend the tag team titles via the Freebird rule!

In closing, thank you to World Underground Wrestling - Philippines in putting on a show that the fans will not forget any time soon.

To St. John Martin and the roster of both WUW - Philippines, and the new PUSO Wrestling roster, thank you for all the efforts, and keeping wrestling alive, and well, in the Philippines!  Also, to the staff, from the announcers, to photographers and those helping put the ring up, thank you too.  From this blogger, without all of you, there's no show, simple as that!

To the fans who were in attendance, and those who weren't there because of other obligations, thank you for supporting WUW - Philippines and PUSO.  Everyone's support is important right now. This blogger believes that WUW - Philippines and PUSO recognizes this and will continue to provide a good product for you.

Also, thank you to Rosh (results), Glenn-Dale (the clip from the show below), Christian, Jelson, Cholo, Andi, Ulysses, Emile, Michael, Martin, Patricia, Isaiah, Jeff, Alexander, and many others that I cannot remember (my apologies), thank you for the communication over the past couple of years.  Being about 7,000 miles away in America, without the input from all of you, posts like this wouldn't be possible.

There are good possibilities that Dexcon and WUW - Philippines will put on. at least, another show before year's end.  Also, PUSO Wrestling has mentioned that there will be an August show.  Details are forthcoming.  This blogger will have it on this blog as soon as the announcement is made!

Finally, pro wrestling will continue next Sunday, July 14th.  Filipino Pro Wrestling will have a show at the Baked Studios in Makati City.  Bell time is 2pm.  For more info, please visit the FPW - Filipino Pro Wrestling page on Facebook.

The copy feature regarding the clip will take some time to download here.  My apologies, but as soon as I can get it, the video will be posted below.  Thank you for your patience!

In the meantime, here is the link from last week's press conference that led to, what I've been told, was carnage at the end of the WUW Tag Team Championship match.

Interview #2 - Steve Hershkowitz

Steve Hershkowitz may not be a household name to those who watch WWE and AEW today.

However, to this fan, Steve is what wrestling is all about!  Back before the pandemic set in worldwide, off and on, I would be watching videos of promotions in Asia.  Middle Kingdom Wrestling was one of the promotions.

It was cool seeing how Steve and the reaction of the fans!  And watching him in matches, he was pretty good.

This blogger had a chance to meet him at a Meet And Greet for World Underground Wrestling Philippines last August and the wrestling show that followed.  Steve was making a return to the ring after a two year absence.  It looked like he hadn't missed a beat either.

Also, Steve has a book out called Class In Session! This blogger has a copy of the book and has read it.  You can a copy through Amazon.  Please check it out!

Thank you to Steve for doing this.  Hopefully, wrestling fans will see him in a ring again very soon!

Wayne - When you started following pro wrestling, who was your favorite promotion?

Steve:  I came to become a wrestling fan by happenstance. As a 10-year old boy, I was channeling surfing and landed on a live WWWF card from MSG on Sports Channel. For a period of time WWWF was the only game in town. Don’t ask me how - but somehow I learned about a California-based wrestling show that aired late night on Tuesday evenings on a New Jersey Spanish UHF channel. Shortly thereafter, I was able to watch Mid-Atlantic Wrestling on a cable channel emanating out of Buffalo, New York. Georgia Championship Wrestling on TBS was my next discovery. While enjoyed the options available to me, WWWF was my favorite promotion.

Wayne:  Who was your favorite wrestler early as a fan?

Steve:  WWWF…Chief Jay Strongbow Mid-Atlantic…Ric Flair GCW…The Fabulous Freebirds.

Wayne:  Steve, who trained you before becoming a pro wrestler?

Steve:  My initial trainers were Jon Dahmer and Eddie Valentine at the CZW Dojo. I was also trained by Jeff Rocker, Les Morgan, and Big Slam at various points.

Wayne:  You wrestled for several years, some of it with Middle Kingdom Wrestling. What was your favorite match that you were involved in?

Steve:  While I do have several favorite matches, I have more favorite moments/spots. A lot of those moments revolve around fan interaction. I think my favorite USA moment was when I was wrestling in an EWA show in Jackson, New Jersey. The front row was occupied by inebriated bachelor party guests. It was the first time I got face pops as a heel. In China, the highlight would be my extended feud with Wang Tao, but I also had memorable matches with Zombie Dragon, Curry Kid, and Black Mamba.

Wayne:  You made a return to the ring with World Underground Wrestling - Philippines. How did you feel during the match with Ken Cifer and how you felt afterwards.

Steve:  Let’s start with how I felt before the match. I was very nervous because not only was this a new promotion for me, but also because I was coming off a two-year layoff. During the match I gassed literally in the first minute.

Ken really carried me through the match, and I will always respect him for that. Afterwards I felt a combination of jubilation and sheer exhaustion. I had two different people suggest I allow the medical staff to take my blood pressure.

Wayne:  I've asked this question with the Southeast Asia wrestlers. How do you feel right now with the improvement in the Southeast Asia promotions? Are they going in the right direction?

Steve:  Honestly, I have pretty much only worked for MKW in China other than one match for WLW (also in China) before debuting in WUW. It was truly a pleasure being involved with both groups.

Wayne:  Finally, your thoughts on pro wrestling as a whole today? Is it the Golden Age that some people believe?

Steve:  I believe that professional wrestling as a whole is experiencing a resurgence. Between Triple H taking creative control, the presence of AEW, and even NXT are definitely all positive things for the business in my opinion.
