SETUP Thailand EP21 Double Cross Results

Hello everyone.

Here are the results from SETUP Thailand's show, EP21 Double Cross.  The show took place this past Saturday night, March 22nd at The Circus Studio.  Normally, I don't do a recap unless this blogger was at the event.  However, this recap is important in various ways.

The show began with a tribute to Masa Takanashi by playing his intro song.  He took part in SETUP's very first show back in January 2020 and is a very familiar face to the fans in Thailand and throughout all of Asia.

Takanashi suffered an unfortunate neck injury a few days ago at a show in Japan.  All of us who have read about, or know him, we're thinking, praying, and are hoping for the best.  Our thought and prayers are with him at this time.

On to the show, this blogger heard, read and saw some clips.  It was wild to say the least.  A loud and boisterous crowd of 141 fans saw some great action.   The second, third and fourth matches were a part of the Uprising Series which will give everyone some much needed experience.

The final three matches had some great action and also, very interesting endings.  None of the SETUP Titles changed hands, but there were interesting developments that happened.  This blogger wasn't there, but word does get back, especially from about 12,800 kilometers away...

There was a chair shot that ended one match.

There was a referee, for some reason, that stopped a count in a tag match.  Heard some rumor going around that the referee was paid.

And then there was some interference from a wrestler who wasn't supposed to be at ringside.  Not only that, he aligned with another wrestler after the match to become a group called the Real Global Threat.  Am hearing that RGT want to take over the local wrestling industry.

This fan, while doing this post is supposed to be unbiased here.  However, thanks to this blogger's regional wrestling hero, JDL, he stopped RGT before any further damage was done.  This blogger hears that our regional wrestling hero will team up with Jonathan Johnson and have challenged RGT to a match scheduled this coming May.

AND.......if some things can be worked out back in America, this blogger WILL be visiting Thailand AND will be at the May show!  I want to thank several fans who shared some insights with the show as well as sharing pics, reels and more.  Also, thank you to SETUP Thailand Pro Wrestling, to Pumi, the staff, and to all the wrestlers and fans involved.  It makes doing this post a whole lot easier to do.

Here are the results...

Anont Alonzo d. "Gatekeeper" Hyde in an open challenge.

Kevin Weng d. Kru Pol.

Flame Drake and Gunn wrestled to a 10 minute time limit draw.

Pondhub & Blick Drewz d. Chalee & Admin Oak.

Shivam d. Jake De Leon in the #1 contender's qualifying match for the IWA Japan World Heavyweight Title.  Shivam will face Jonathan Johnson and Mikey Wild in the tournament final.

Matcha d. Alexis Lee and is the #1 contender for the SETUP All Asia Women's Title.

The Good Deal d. Jack N' Cheese and remain the IWA SETUP World Tag Team Champions.  They successfully defended it for the fourth time.

Andruew Tang d. Jonathan Johnson in Tang's first defense of the title and remains the SETUP Openweight Champion.

Dexcon Pro Wrestling

Hello everyone!

This blogger would like to give a shout out to a wrestling group based in the Philippines.  You may have heard about a group called Dexcon Pro Wrestling.

This may have been mentioned before on this blog.  The group has done everything to make pro wrestling in the Philippines and throughout Southeast Asia and Asia better for everyone!

Their first sponsored pro wrestling show was in August 2023.  This fan was very fortunate to attend it at the Brawl Pit Bulusan.  It featured wrestlers from the former Manila Wrestling Federation, World Underground Wrestling - Philippines and wrestlers from other countries such as Singapore, Japan and Thailand.

In nearly two years, Dexcon has brought in wrestlers such as Alexis Lee, Poppy, Yuki Kamifuku, Kojio Akumu, CDK (Chris Brookes and Masa Takanashi), Shivam, AFAM Steve (aka Steve The Teacher), Jonathan Johnson, Monomoth and The Horrors just to name a few.

In March, Dexcon will have their next show and the group has really come up with a find.  Yoshi Tatsu, legendary Japanese wrestler with DDT, NJPW and a brief stint in the WWE will appear.  Who knows what Dexcon will come up with next.  Within 24 hours after the announcement, general admission tickets for the event were sold out!

Thank you to the staff at Dexcon for all you've done in the Philippines and throughout Asia.  One day, this blogger hopes to see another Dexcon event.  The first one at the Brawl Pit Bulusan was entertaining and wild!

Here's the link to Dexcon if anyone is interested in their shows past, present and future!  Thank you.

SETUP Thailand Bangkok Navigation Update #8

Hello everyone!

The upcoming post will be about two important singles matches that haven't been covered.  This may be a little long, but please be patient.

Before sharing it, there's one important clarification regarding the blogger's last post on Steve The Teacher.

Per several sources, and since I wasn't there for the show, something important was not mentioned about the SETUP Rumble.  Mikey Wild was officially not a part of the match which changes the complexion of what happened that day.  There were other things that happened in the Rumble, but that is for another time.

The Steve The Teacher-Mikey Wild match next Saturday is definitely one that wrestling fans at The Circus Studio need to see!

This blogger stresses that what is posted here on the blog IS factual as much as possible.  I don't do this to be a Dave Meltzer nor the dirt sheets that you see on social media.  Not into that!

Thank you to the sources who messaged me regarding this.  There is nothing wrong with messaging when something written needs correcting!  It's not taken as criticism but a learning experience.  Definitely, am not and never will be a know it all!  Most important, it's appreciated here!  Thank you as always.

Moving forward, SETUP Thailand and wrestling fans should really be excited about the upcoming show.  Besides Paksa vs. Naomichi Marafuji, Kevin Weng vs. Daz Black and Steve The Teacher vs. Mikey Wild, there are these two singles matches.

Masa Takanashi vs. Jonathan Johnson

Shota vs. Monomoth

Masa Takanashi has been busy wrestling in Japan for various promotions since August both in singles and tag team action.  He was last in a SETUP ring at the 30th anniversary show when the Calamari Drunken Kings (w/Chris Brookes) lost the IWA SETUP Tag Team Title in a 3-way match.

Jonathan Johnson had a great 2024.  He held the SETUP Thailand Openweight Championship for 315 days, longer than any wrestler on record.  In his last match, he lost in controversial fashion.  Please check You Tube on what happened.  You can say in the case of both wrestlers here, both are looking to get back into the win column as soon as next Saturday.

In the other singles match, Shota is a wrestler that this blogger believes is exciting to watch from some video.  He wrestles for several promotions in Japan.  I don't recall if he's wrestled in Thailand before, but remember him at a Vietnam Pro Wrestling show last May.  Fans there were impressed with his performance.

What can this blogger say about Monomoth!  In 2024, Monomoth, not only wrestled before sell out crowds at The Circus Studio, but also in the Philippines, Japan and in America with the GCW Promotion at a Philadelphia show.  One can say that this singles match will be exciting to watch as well.

For more on tickets (front row is sold out as of this post), please visit the SETUP Thailand Pro Wrestling Facebook page.  Thank you.

Wrestle Storm Update

Dexcon's event, Wrestle Storm, will take place the weekend of Saturday/Sunday, March 23-24th.

Matchmaker, Linus Santos, who is becoming one of the top matchmakers in the region, has come up with another tag team match for the March 24th show!

The team of Oro Plata Mata (MWF Pinoy Wrestling Champion, Jake De Leon and teammate, Dabid Ravena) will face the Calamari Drunken Kings (Chris Brookes and Masahiro Takanashi) in the second of two tag matches.

CDK as they are known, and as of this post, are the SPW Southeast Asia Tag Team Champions.  The team has wrestled throughout portions of Southeast Asia and has been a team to reckon with.

This is not to sell Oro Plata Mata short.  The Pinoy Wrestling fans, particularly at Manila Wrestling Federation shows know the capability of Jake De Leon and Dabid Ravena.  They are excellent singles wrestlers.  I've been told by sources that the two have tagged on occasions.  If I were CDK, this is a team not to be overlooked.

The other tag team match is for the WUW International Tag Team Championship.  TZK (Saint John Martin and Ken Cifer) will put the titles on the line against reunited Gemini Kings (ROMEO and Main Maxx).

There will be a Meet and Greet on Saturday, March 23rd at 12 noon at Unbox Greenhills.  The wrestling show will take place on Sunday, March 24th at Brawl Pit Bulusan in Quezon City at 6pm.

For more information on the show and tickets, please check the Dexcon page on Facebook!  Tickets are going well.
