SETUP Thailand Update #1

Hello everyone!

SETUP Thailand tentatively will be having their next show on Wednesday, February 12th with a mat show (Motorway Dojo ?).  The next confirmed show is Saturday, March 22nd at The Circus Studio.  The March event is EP21: Thai Wrestling Battle of the Month of March. For more information on both shows, please visit the SETUP Thailand Pro Wrestling Facebook page.

In the meantime, SETUP Thailand has posted some full length matches from the last show in January on their You Tube page.  If you have a chance, please check them out.  This blogger has had a chance to view a couple of them and they were definitely good.

This fan has said the following message a few times already.  If you haven't been to a pro wrestling show in Southeast Asia, and in this case, Thailand, you are missing a lot!

Watching a wrestling show at The Circus Studio is a great experience.  It is very much like the Brawl Pit Bulusan in the Philippines, VAIB Studio D7 in Vietnam, the Grapplemax Studios in Singapore and/or anywhere that pro wrestling is happening right now.  The fans are passionate, energetic, knowledgeable and right on top of the action!

If you are reading this for the first time, or often, if you have a chance, please attend a show!  It's an experience you won't soon forget!  Thank you.

TZK To Defend Titles At WrestleStorm 2

Hello everyone.

World Underground Wrestling Tag Team Champions, St. John Martin and Ken Cifer, known as TZK, will be defending their titles at WrestleStorm 2 put on by Dexcon.  Who will their opponents be?  TZK is currently the longest reigning champions in World Underground Wrestling Tag Team history!

The show is scheduled for Saturday, March 16th at the Brawl Pit Bulusan in Quezon City. The show is slated to start at 6pm!

Also appearing at the event are Yoshi Tatsu, one of the biggest superstars in Japanese Pro Wrestling history.

Jake De Leon, who had an incredible 2024 in the Philippines, and throughout Asia, will be making a highly anticipated return to the ring!

The Super Friends (Super P and El Kapitunero), coming off a show in Singapore, will be appearing at the Brawl Pit Bulusan awaiting action.

Finally, Robin Sane, is aiming for redemption in a career defining moment against an opponent yet to be named.  Last November, at the SETUP Thailand show, Robin, along with Monomoth, nearly won the IWA SETUP Tag Team belts against The Good Deal.  It is still a match that has been talked about in Thailand today!

General Admission tickets for the show are SOLD OUT!  However, there are some tickets in various categories that remain.  For more information, please visit the Dexcon - DXCN Facebook page by clicking the link below.

While there, and on the WUW Philippines page, please note that WUW Master Clash will take place on April 5th, also at Brawl Pit Bulusan.  You can find some information on this on the Dexcon as well as the WUW - Philippines page.  The link to WUW Philippines is below as well.  Thank you.

Stables And Factions

Jason Rex & LegenDarius at Filipino Pro Wrestling's last show in 2024.  Courtesy of LegenDarius, John Lesther Lucor and FPW.

Pro Wrestling has always been, to many, the best in sports entertainment.  Every promotion has its faces and heels.  And then, there are the stables and factions!

The first one that this blogger can recall would be The Four Hoursemen of NWA/WCW's era.  This fan will always remember the day when on TBS, the Superstation out of Atlanta, Georgia.  Legendary announcer, Gordon Solie would introduce them for an television studio interview.  There was the Nature Boy, Ric Flair.   He would be joined by Arn and Ole Anderson, Tully Blanchard and their manager, JJ Dillon.  The group would back their trash talk with their in ring performance quite often.

Stables and factions are developing now in Southeast Asia Pro Wrestling.  For instance, in Vietnam Pro Wrestling, over the past few months, a group called Vortex Rebellion has been formed.  It's members currently are Kira, KPY, D Austin and Long Xiumin.

With PUSO Wrestling in the Philippines, a couple of months ago, there was the return of MSG from the early Pinoy wrestling years.  A familiar name, Mr. Sy, has formed a group that could take notice in the Pinoy wrestling scene.  The group are Dabid Ravena, Kurt Jiminez, Miguel Valdez and Chelsea Marie.

Also, last year, SIGMA, from Filipino Pro Wrestling is in the news.  Led by wrestler, mentor and/or strategist, LegenDarius, SIGMA has Jason Rex and his latest find, AB3 in the fold.

There may be other groups that this blogger is unaware of, and will likely find out soon.  Things could be very interesting at a VPW, FPW, PUSO Wrestling show in the future.  Wrestling fans will definitely be, more than interested, in their promotion's upcoming shows.

TOP Dojo (Thailand) Free Training Sessions

According to the TOP Dojo - Thailand Origin Pro Wrestling page, there will be an upcoming Free Training, Free Classes session.  The training session will be held at the Motorway Dojo, near Airportlink metro station, Hua Mak.

This is a great opportunity for one to learn the skills of pro wrestling led by an experienced team led by Golem Thai and P-Nutz.  Thank you.

VPW Spring Bash Update #4

Hello everyone!

In the last VPW Spring Bash post, this blogger mentioned that a challenge was being made.

Back in December, at the 2024 Immortal Glory show, interference in a tag team match took place.  The team of Sid Nguyen and Khoa Truong were about to defeat Vortex Rebellion (Kira & KPY).

First off, Vortex Rebellion member, D Austin tried to interfere.  Sid Nguyen, seeing this, took him out.

But then, an unknown person, which eventually was Long Xiumin, did interfere and cost Sid's team the match.  Long Xiumin, a former member of the tag team, Mystic Warriors, would go further than this.  After the conclusion, Long Xiumin would become the fourth member of the Vortex Rebellion along with "The Destructor" D Austin!

A few days ago, Sid would issue a challenge to Vortex Rebellion seeking redemption at the upcoming show.  It didn't matter if it was two on two, three on three or 10 on 10.  He, along with Khoa Troung, wanted revenge for what happened in December!

Well.......the match, and history will be made at VPW Spring Bash on Saturday, February 22nd beginning at 7pm at the VAIB Studio D7!  This has the makings of a second main event to the one already announced for the show!

The team of Team Sid - Sid Nguyen, Khoa Truong, VPW Openweight Champion, Hy Draco and Henry will take on Vortex Rebellion - Kira, KPY, The Destructor - D Austin and Long Xiumin.  This match is the first in VPW history, an Eight Man - Guerrilla Games match!

Looking back at VPW history, there have been Mekong Mayhem Six Man Tag Team Matches which can be wild!  There have also been three way tag team matches, which are unpredictable in itself.

However, an Eight Man - Guerrilla Games match is definitely a first in VPW, and most likely, Southeast Asia pro wrestling history.

Also, learning about the announced match, there may, very well, be another surprise or two before the upcoming show!

For more information, including tickets, please visit the Vietnam Pro Wrestling Facebook page.  Also, VPW can be found on other social media platforms such as Instagram and You Tube!  Thank you.

Congratulations To Dexcon And To Zack Sabre Jr & Jake De Leon!

Photo and the first paragraph courtesy of the Dexcon Facebook page!

Congratulations to Zack Sabre Jr. and Jake De Leon for securing the impressive #49 spot in the Voices of Wrestling Match of the Year 2024 rankings! This recognition is a testament to their outstanding performance, as they’ve surpassed several legendary bouts from the past year.

The match that is being referred to is the Dexcon Decada event.  It was the main event of the show on 26 May 2024 at the Brawl Pit Bulusan in Quezon City, Philippines.  This match was rated higher than Samy Zayn defeating Gunther at last year's Wrestlemania as well as Will Ospreay defeating MJF last August!

Dexcon has been nothing but an amazing group of knowledgeable and great wrestling fans sharing a dream.  Now, in their third year, they are providing the best possible product for the fans, not only in the Philippines, but those in Southeast Asia who want to attend their shows.  It's not every day when one can see such talent as Zack Sabre Jr., or, soon, Yoshi Tatsu, entertaining wrestling fans in Southeast Asia.

Check out the list here: https://www.voicesofwrestling.com/.../voices-of.../

Looking Back - Second Of A Series

Outside of the Pacelli Event Center in Daly City, CA.

Hello everyone!

The second version of Looking Back, hopefully, is a good one for all of you reading and watching.

Japanese wrestling, and wrestlers, have always been one of this blogger's favorites in pro wrestling.  In the West Coast of America where I live, there were two excellent wrestlers that performed and were main event talent.  This was before the formation of what is now New Japan Pro Wrestling in 1972.

Kinji Shibuya and Mr. Saito (Masa Saito) were excellent AWA Tag Team champions back in the late 1960s.  They would face all comers in the area.  Mr. Saito would go on to the WWF and finish his career there.

In the 1970s-1980s, it would be The Great Fuji (later Mr. Fuji).  From the West Coast, he would continue on in the WWF not only as a wrestler, but also a manager.

In the 1980s, when the American Wrestling Association came to our area, Jumbo Tsuruda would have a brief stint as the AWA World Champion.  In the one show, this fan saw something that he never saw before, a belly-to-back suplex.  The move wasn't that common back then.

In the 1990s and 2000s, there would be more.  Fans reading this will recognize the names of Tajiri and Yoshi Tatsu!  This fan would see them on television and they would light up the arenas!  They were that good and electric during shows.

This fan never had the chance to see Tajiri live.  I  was a little more fortunate to see Yoshi Tatsu.  It was in May 2016.  All Pro Wrestling, a local independent promotion in Daly City, about 10km from San Francisco hosted an event.  It was called Friday The 13th!

This would be my first ever independent show!  Besides Yoshi Tatsu, the names of Marty Janetty (WWE - The Rockers), MVP (WWE and AEW who was wrestling in a 4 way match for the APW Universal Title) and a young Jeff Cobb (FPW Champion, AEW and NJPW) were on the show.

Yoshi Tatsu wrestled Joey Ryan, a familiar local wrestler with the promotion.  There were 10 matches on the evening.  The fans, in every match, were loud and enthusiastic!

Dexcon, wrestling fans in the Philippines, and in Southeast Asia, are in for a treat on March 16th!  You will have a chance to see the legendary Yoshi Tatsu in action.  Very few tickets are left for the show so please visit the Dexcon Facebook page for tickets!

Back to the Pacelli Events Center, to this fan's recollection, it holds 150-200 fans for wrestling events.

Believe it or not, this fan found the Yoshi Tatsu-Joey Ryan match on You Tube.  A courtesy thank you to Bar Wrestling and to You Tube for showing this.  The link is below so please click if you would like to see this!  Thank you.

VPW Spring Bash Update #3

Hello everyone!

Vietnam Pro Wrestling's next show, Spring Bash, will take place on Saturday, February 22nd.  The venue is VAIB Studio, D7 beginning at 7pm.

One match, a hair vs. hair match between Rocky Huynh and The British Horror has been set as the Main Event.

However, there may very well be another match made soon!

At the December show, Immortal Glory, the team of Khoa Truong and Sid Nguyen were about to defeat the team of Vortex Rebellion (Kira & KPY). This blogger hasn't officially seen the video, but an unlikely participant, Long Xiumin Long, interfered and cost Khoa Truong and Sid Nguyen the match.  Long Xiumin, has since, become the fourth member of Vortex Rebellion.

Khoa Truong & Sid Nguyen are looking for redemption, and have challenged Vortex Rebellion to a rematch for the upcoming show.  As of this post, there hasn't been an answer but we'll likely have one soon!

In the meantime, for more information on the show, and tickets, please visit the Vietnam Pro Wrestling Facebook page.  VPW can also be viewed on other social media outlets such as Facebook and You Tube.  Thank you.

An Excellent Writeup!

Thank you to Bill Velasco of the Philippine Star and PUSO Wrestling for sharing this.  Much appreciated!

Hello everyone!

Very recently, there was an article written by Bill Velasco of the Philippine Star newspaper.  On several of this blogger's visits over the years, I've picked up the newspaper to see what's happening in the country.  Because of my limited tagalog, it's nice to have an English, and good quality, newspaper to read over an early morning cup of coffee.

Bill did an excellent interview with three of PUSO Wrestling's talents.  As some of you may know, PUSO Wrestling is the newest promotion, not only in the Philippines, but in all of Southeast Asia.  The article gives fans a perspective of what pro wrestling is all about.

Over the past year or so, this blogger has seen several newspaper articles throughout Southeast Asian pro wrestling promotions.  This is definitely important in every country throughout the world.  Television, streaming services, podcasts, yes, even blogs, and more are nice.  However, newspaper articles are every bit as good.

One thing that the readers on this blog must know is this.  Southeast Asian Pro Wrestling is still fairly new in the region.  The earliest, to my knowledge, that a pro wrestling promotion began was in 2012 with Singapore Pro Wrestling!

Thank you Bill and to the other newspapers over the region that have done stories such as this one.   It is greatly appreciated in the pro wrestling industry everywhere!

PUSO Wrestling In The News

Hello everyone!

This coming weekend, PUSO Wrestling will be taking part in an event, MATA EXPO Philippines 2025.  The date is Saturday, February 1st between 10:00am-5:00pm.  Location is LE PAVILLON EVENT HALL, Metrobank Avenue, Pasay City (Near Mall of Asia), Metro Manila, Philippines.

Members of the PUSO Wrestling roster will be there at a merchandise booth.  Also, there will be some matches that will be held during the day. Please support your favorite wrestler(s) this coming weekend.

Also, PUSO Wrestling was recently in the news in the Metro Manila area.  The Philippine Star did a story on several wrestlers regarding pro wrestling!  It was definitely a great article, one that is needed in the Philippines as well as throughout Southeast Asia, and worldwide!

Here is the link to the Philippine Star article listed below.  Have a good day everyone!

Malaysia Pro Wrestling Info

Recent photo, courtesy (and thank you) to Malaysia Pro Wrestling.  This was the MYPW seminar recently hosted by Japanese superstar wrestler, Shota!

Hello everyone!

Malaysia Pro Wrestling had their last show this past November, Champion's Quest.  As the fans at the KuAsh Theater remember, The Juicy Boyz (Miles Karu & The Wonderboy) won the SPW Southeast Tag Team Titles from The Horrors.  It was an exciting matchup!

The promotion has not been totally quiet since last year.  The Juicy Boyz have defended the SPW belts in Singapore successfully against Jack N'Cheese.  Also, there was the (above Pic) seminar put on by Shota, the great Japanese wrestling star.

I know this has not been announced yet, but there will be an event, Causeway Jam, that will take place in Singapore on Saturday, February 22nd.  It is an event that is hosted by Grapplemax Pro Wrestling Singapore.  Details of the event will take place in the coming days.

Last year, there were two Causeway Jam events,  one in Singapore in February, the second in June in Malaysia.  The events were well attended!

Hello everyone.

Here is some of what happened in SEA Wrestling history one year ago around this time.

Vietnam Pro Wrestling - Venomshank (Dokuga and Rensho), the VPW Tag Team Champions, were to face The Juicy Boyz (The Wonderboy & Miles Karu) from Malaysia Pro Wrestling for the VPW Tag Team Championship.  The Juicy Boyz would go on to win a title later in the year.

SETUP Thailand - Jonathan Johnson became the SETUP Openweight Championship in a three-way. Matcha became the SETUP All Asia Women's Title, also in a three-way.

Singapore Pro Wrestling - Black Arrow had just won the SPW Singapore Title.  Also, The Horrors (Da Buthcherman & Dr. Gore) had won the Southeast Asia Tag Team Title.

Grapplemax Pro Wrestling Singapore - Hotshot would make a couple of successful defenses of the Grapplemax Openweight Title since winning it in late 2023.

Dexcon (Philippines) - Dexcon had announced in December that they would sponsor their second show, WrestleStorm.  The show would eventually sell out and was a huge success!

Filipino Pro Wrestling - FPW would announce their first show, FPW Astig.  It was announced that the main event, the champion - Mike Madrigal would face Thiago for the title.

Ring Of Rebirth Singapore - ROR would announce their first two shows in March, RoR #6 and #7 at the Goldpine Industrial Building.

TOP Dojo (Thailand) - TOP Dojo would announce their first show, "A New Dream."  It would take place in March at the Motorway Dojo before an enthusiastic and sellout group in attendance.

Malaysia Pro Wrestling - Some members of MYPW were preparing for an event, Causeway Jam, featuring some wrestlers from their promotion and Grapplemax at the Grapplemax Studios.  One week later, they would host their first show, New Breed in Malaysia.

World Underground Wrestling - Philippines - Several wrestlers took part in the Dexcon event in March.  After a couple of other wrestling shows, they hosted their own show, Tagay Na!

APAC Wrestling (Malaysia) - The promotion had just completed a very successful show, APAC Enter The Dragon before a capacity crowd at Spacerubix.

PUSO Wrestling Livestream II Results

Hello everyone!

Apologies if the link is a bit long.  Here are the results from PUSO Wrestling's Livestream II event.  The show took place on Sunday evening at the Brawl Pit Bulusan in Quezon City.

The Livestream II video began with PUSO Wrestling's, Isaiah Valencia introducing Fabio Makisig.  Six trainees (one woman and five men) were introduced as part of PUSO Factory's first batch.  The factory was announced by Mr. Philippine Wrestling's Jake De Leon a few weeks earlier.

The six aspirants went through several activities with a few fans in attendance.  Seeing a wrestling factory, this is a small part of what participants do in preparation to become a future pro wrestler.

Thank you to Jake, Fabio, Nigel and a number of PUSO Wrestling's members for leading a group of, hopeful, future members of the roster!

Following the 25 minute activity, there was three matches on the livestream.  The program closed out with Isaiah Valencia sharing the upcoming Dexcon and WUW Philippines events in March and April.

Here are the results.  Below the results is the link to Livestream II.  Please check the entire program out as well as subscribing to PUSO Wrestling!  Thank you.

Blog Changes

Hello everyone.

The blogger has made a couple of update changes regarding the blog, Pro Wrestling Today.

First, the title has a changed tagline.  Due to wrestlers and fans wrestling in areas outside of Southeast Asia, the tagline is different.  It now says The Best Of Southeast Asia, Australia and Europe.

Second, the About page has been modified and an INTRO page has been added.  They can be found on the blog's right side.

Third, a number of friends and wrestling fans mentioned to me that the URL was way too long.  I have updated it.  For those of you that have bookmarked the blog on a computer, laptop, tablet or cell phone, my apologies.  This blogger wants things to be a little more professional and most of all, better!

For a couple of days, the Google search engines will likely not have anything.  Am told that this is a 48 hour turnaround.  No fears there.

Also, posts with links from the old URL if clicked will show nothing or canceled blog.  If it happens, please click https://pwtsea.blogspot.com/  and once reaching the blog, scroll to the post that you were originally looking for.  The new blog url works and has been tested everywhere!

Wrestling promotions want to be better.  Wrestlers want to be better.  Fans want to be better.  All of you expect the same here from this blogger.  Enough said here!

Here is the new URL.  I've checked the entire blog and nothing has been deleted!  If one goes to the old URL, you will receive a message saying that the blog is deleted!  Please don't be alarmed.  Again, here's the new URL...

Finally, a likely design change will likely take place this summer.  It will be a customer domain. Am looking at pricing right now and ideas.

Again, thank you everyone who has read Pro Wrestling Today.  Whether you have read it once, or a number of times, it's more than appreciated here.  This fan will continue to do the best to provide the best pro wrestling blog covering Southeast Asia, Australia, Europe, and soon other worldwide locations!  Have a good day everyone!
