VPW Saigon Slam Update #5

Hello everyone.

One more match has been added to Vietnam Pro Wrestling's Saigon Slam show on Saturday, April 19th at the VAIB Studio D7 in Ho Chi Minh City.  The show will begin at 7pm.

This match is a main event, not only in Vietnam, but anywhere in Southeast Asia.  Emman Azman, formerly with  Malaysia Pro Wrestling, will take on co-founder of VPW in Rocky Huynh.

Emman Azman, in recent years, wrestled in Australia, and was a champion with the Pro Wrestling League promotion.  He got his wrestling start with Malaysia Pro Wrestling a few years ago and was trained by both Shaukat and Carlo Cannon, two great wrestlers in Malaysia.  This will be Azman's first visit to Vietnam.

All of VPW wrestling fans know of Rocky Huynh.  He was won the VPW Openweight Title on two occasions and is looking forward to getting another title shot soon.  Also, this will be his first match, to this blogger's knowledge against Azman.

For tickets, please visit the Vietnam Pro Wrestling Facebook page.  Thank you.

WUW Philippines Master Clash Update #9

Hello everyone.

A huge match has been added for WUW Philippines show, Master Clash.  The pro wrestling show takes place on Saturday, April 5th at the Brawl Pit Bulusan, Quezon City, beginning at 6pm.

The pinay women take the mat as PUSO Wrestling HSSL's Joya will go one on one with MSG's Chelsea Marie.

These two have tangled in the past at PUSO Wrestling's Heart 2 Heart show last September.  This definitely has the makings of a good rivalry not just with WUW Philippines and PUSO Wrestling, but all of Pinay Wrestling.

For tickets, please visit the World Underground Philippines - WUW Philippines Facebook page.  Thank you.

VPW Saigon Slam Update #4

Hello everyone.

Vung Tao Experience, the current VPW Tag Team Champions, will have their hands full on Saturday, April 19th at Vietnam Pro Wrestling show, Saigon Slam at the VAIB Studio D7.

Normal tag team matches have one team against another.  This time, VTX will be up against three teams, and for the title.  They are Venomshank, Vortex Rebellion and Henry and Khoa Truong. It is called a Four Way Scramble Match.

Though VPW hasn't yet mentioned this in their post, here is what I found out about four way scramble matches per Google Wikipedia.

Primarily associated with Ring Of Honor, a Scramble tag team match has one difference from the normal rules: when a wrestler goes out of the ring either of their own volition or by being forced out, a partner can come in as a replacement without being tagged in. This format is most commonly used in either four corner tags, or with teams of more than 2. The Scramble match can also be done as a six-man scramble where anyone can tag in anyone. This rule is also the norm for all Dragon Gate tag matches.

Also, like other four way matches, VTX doesn't need to be pinned in order for them to lose the title.  They would need to pin a wrestler in order to retain the title.

For more information and tickets, please visit the Vietnam Pro Wrestling Facebook page.  Thank you.

The SETUP 24/7 Title Experience

From left to right, LegenDarius (FPW), Ken Warren (then with MWF) and yours truly.  This followed my first pro wrestling show in Southeast Asia.  Ken allowed us to hold the SETUP 24/7 belts.  It was my first experience holding a belt.  To my friends at SETUP: I took care of it and actually kept the face of the belt polished.  It was a great experience and one not to be forgotten!

Hello everyone.

SETUP Thailand Pro Wrestling, one of this blogger's favorite pro wrestling promotions, came up with a title during the COVID-19 pandemic.  It was something similar to what WWE did.  The promotion came up with a new title which they still have today, the SETUP 24/7 title.

The 24/7 title is a mid card type title which allows everyone in the promotion involved as long as there's a referee present.  The idea of this was started by WWE wrestling legend, Mick Foley.  By no means it was never to be a major title.  However, when you least expect something that happens at a pro wrestling show, someone can win a title anywhere in the building.

At my first Southeast Asia pro wrestling show, Manila Wrestling Federation's Noche Buena, one of Pinoy wrestling's best performers, Jomar Liwanag, was the champion.  He would defend the title later in the evening against the previous champion, Ken Warren at the Peta Center in Quezon City.

There were 10 matches that evening.  From around the third to the eighth match of the evening, there would be times when the SETUP 24/7 title changed hands during the show.  It was a very clever idea from the MWF writers how they did it.  Here were the title changes that happened that night....

Tarek El Tayech (employee) d. Jomar Liwanag.

Veronica Litton (employee) d. Tarek El Tayech.

Danny Zamora & Razael d. Veronica Litton.

Bahay ng Liwanag d. Razael.

Ken Warren d. Bahay ng Liwanag in a 3-1 handicap match to win the SETUP 24/7 title.

Ken Warren would keep the title until he returned to Thailand.  Prior to the match in Thailand, he would announce that he would be leaving the Philippines and relocate in Canada.

Anyway, back in Thailand, Mr. Suchart of SETUP Thailand would get his rematch and would win back the title.  Basically, the title, for the most part, has stayed in Thailand. At last count, around 50 people have had the title at one time or another.

Currently, Kevin Weng has the title.  He is one of the bright future stars in the SETUP promotion.  It will be interesting how long he holds on to the belt.

WUW Philippines Master Clash Update #8

Hello everyone.

Jomar has won two pro wrestling titles in his career.  They are the SETUP 24/7 and AWGC Tag Team Championships.

At the upcoming WUW Philippines Master Clash show, Jomar has an open challenge to wrestle anyone.  Who will step forward and accept?

Tickets for the Saturday, April 5th show are still available.  Please visit the World Underground Wrestling Philippimes - WUW Philippines Facebook page.  Thank you..

NWF Bad Blood Update #6

Hello everyone.

As mentioned in the last Norges Wrestlingforbund post, Rayo Flores will be in action on the show.

We now know who his opponent will be.  It will be, none other, than Espen Olsen.  It will be for the UEWA Cruiserweight Championship.

After what happened to Rayo's tag team partner, Kym, in the last pro wrestling show, there is more than just the title at stake.

For tickets to the April 5th show, 7pm at the Sagene Festival House, please visit the Norges Wrestlingforbund Facebook page.  Thank you.

Feature On Robin Sane

Robin Sane (Red) and Serafin Liwanag in a match at the 2022 Noche Buena show.

Hello everyone.

Pinoy wrestling fans are definitely among the most passionate wrestling fans on the planet, if not the most.  They definitely know wrestling when they see it.

One wrestler that is well known in the Metro Manila area is The Red Lightning, Robin Sane.

Since this fan began to follow pro wrestling in Southeast Asia, Robin has been one of my favorites.  He's not the biggest wrestlers in size in the region.  However, his athletic ability, agility and speed, more than make up for it.  Definitely, he has the heart which is extremely important.

Robin's wrestling career began with Philippine Wrestling Revolution back in September 2014.  Eventually, he would join a new promotion in the Manila Wrestling Federation a  couple of years later in 2016.  In that time, he faced some well known wrestlers such as Ho Ho Lun, The Eurasian Dragon and Andruew Tang who are with various SEA promotions.

In December 2018, Robin Sane would climb to the top of the mountain.  In the finals of the MWF Pinoy Wrestling Championship tournament, he would defeat Fabio Makisig and would become the inaugural champion.  It is a match that has, and still is talked about, in Pinoy wrestling history!  The match took place at the UP Bahay ng Alumni in Quezon City.

Sane would defend the title successfully on three occasions before losing the belt in a very controversial decision in July 2019 at the Chinatown Mall.  Unfortunately, Robin never got the rematch that he totally deserved.  One of the major issues was Covid-19 which affected pro wrestling, especially throughout Southeast Asia.

He didn't give up however.  Robin would wrestle in WUW - Philippines and Dexcon shows along with an occasional MWF show before the promotion folded in May 2024.

Some of the bigger highlights would definitely be the match he had with SETUP Thailand's Shivam in March 2024.  Also, there was the tag match last November in Thailand.  Robin would team up with SETUP's Monomoth to face IWA SETUP's The Good Deal for the tag team titles.  To date, this blogger has been told that it was The Good Deal's stiffest competition to date.

At the December 2022 MWF Noche Buena show, this blogger had a chance to meet Robin.  He was gracious with his time.  I've always felt that if there was any kind of title opportunity in Southeast Asia, he can win another title!  I still feel that way today!

Next month, Robin, along with Nigel San Jose will face Jake De Leon and Fabio Makisig in the WUW Philippines Master Clash show at the Brawl Pit Bulusan.  The winner of the tag match will face Zack Sabre Jr. and El Phantasmo, two of NJPWs greats in an International Tag Team match at the Dexcon Dakila show.

Knowing Robin like I do, the upcoming match is no pushover for the opponents.  Jake and Fabio are great wrestlers.  However, anything can happen.

FPW Update

Hello everyone.

This just came across on the blogger's feed.

Filipino Pro Wrestling is up to something again.  Could it be another show?  Could a new wrestler debut?  Could it be both?  Or perhaps, none of the above?

Anyway, FPW wants you to know the details that will happen on Sunday, April 27th.  Here is the link listed below for more details.  Thank you.

Sid Nguyen will face Vortex Rebellion's K.P.Y. in a singles match.  It will actually feature the teacher vs. the pupil.

K.P.Y. is a rising star in VPW, but was pinned in his last match early in the month during part of an eight man tag team encounter.

Sid Nguyen, one of the founders of the promotion, is likely wrestling at his best at this point of his career.

Revisiting SIGMA

Jason Rex with LegenDarius after their tag win last year.

Hello everyone.

There was a lot going on at Filipino Pro Wrestling's FPW Astig show this past Sunday.

There was the attack on Robynn by The Yolo Twins before the match ever started.  There was the Rex Lawin debut as well as the return to action by Mharckie by around a year.

There was also another debut fro a young wrestler, Joshua, and a comedian who looked like a Guerrero with a frog splash.  Then there is SIGMA.

The faction of LegenDarius, Jason Rex and AB3 are definitely going to be something to be heard from in pinoy wrestling annals.  However, yesterday was not exactly what the group had in mind.

LegenDarius looked like he was about to take care of James "Idol" Martinez and pick up his first win as a singles wrestler.  Unfortunately, Martinez came up a clever idea of using a balloon, late in the match.  That distracted him which led Martinez to cleverly get him into a small package and pin.

LegenDarius didn't take these things very lightly.  Apparently, Jason Rex didn't spike Martinez when he was told to.  Then, there was the scolding of AB3 in the middle of the ring before a huge crowd at the Baked Studios.  AB3 and Jason Rex accepted things well after all was said and done.

Also, there was the match between AB3 and Dax Xaviera.  It appeared from the reels that AB3 was getting the better of things.  Somehow, Dax somehow got AB3 into a Boston Crab situation.  Jason Rex, AB3's second, stepped into the ring and clothes lined Dax.  The referee saw this and DQd AB3 giving Dax the win.  It was his first victory in quite awhile.

After a strong showing a couple of weeks ago, then a disappointing day for SIGMA.  Days like this happen to the best.

However, the wrestling fans at the Baked Studios know their wrestling and they know the group will be back.  Let's hope so!

Feature On Jake De Leon

Jake De Leon vs. Chelsea Marie at PUSO Wrestling's first show, Unang Tibok in August 2024.  It was the main event in PUSO Wrestling's first ever show.

Hello everyone.

Every wrestling fan this blogger knows of will likely remember their first wrestling show.  I've been kind of lucky because of seeing my first one in North America and my first in Asia.

Hopefully, this wrestler won't mind my sharing about him and his wrestling career throughout Southeast Asia.  His name is "Mr. Philippine Wrestling"  Jake De Leon.

Jake, also known as JDL, has wrestled professionally for a little over 10 years now.  In the independent Southeast Asia promotions, wrestlers don't wrestle too many matches within their promotion.  However, Jake has wrestled over 100 times now in his career.

He began with Philippine Wrestling Revolution when the promotion began in September 2014.  Over that time, he won the PWR Title on two occasions as well as the PHX title.

When Covid-19 hit the planet in 2020, there was definitely an uncertainty whether pro wrestling would even come back.  When the Covid pandemic was lifted in 2022, PWR was in a holding pattern.  Jake would eventually go over to the Manila Wrestling Federation.  He would wrestle in several of their shows.

In September that year, Jake would win the vacated Manila Wrestling Federation title in a three way match at the Road To Fate show.

In December, Jake would lose to Fabio Makisig at the Niche Buena show at the PETA Theater.

After that, De Leon would make sure that he stepped up his game and physique.  There would be more time in the gym, etc.

One year later, in the December 2023 show, Jake De Leon would recapture the MWF Pinoy Wrestling Championship in an eight way elimination tag match.  He would remain the championship until the Manila Wrestling Federation ended operations in May 2024.

This would not stop Mr. Philippine Wrestling however.  There was the May 26, 2024 Dexcon show at the Brawl Pit Bulusan.  Jake De Leon faced former NJPW Champion, Zack Sabre Jr. in what was termed a match for the ages.

The match ended in a 30 minute draw and it's still talked about today as the greatest pro wrestling match ever seen in the Philippines!

In fact, a few weeks back, a group called Voices Of Wrestling ranked this match number 47 of Match Of The Year rankings for 2024!  This match was ranked higher than the Will Ospreay-MJF match last August as well as the Samu Zayn-Gunther WWE match at Wrestlemania!

Jake has been a major part of the new PUSO Wrestling brand as well as with Dexcon and WUW Philippines shows.  Also, he's traveled to Singapore, Japan, and most recently, Thailand for important shows with various promotions.

In closing, this blogger has said time and again that Jake has been the ultimate professional in and out of the ring.  We've talked a little before and after shows and has taken the time out to share wrestling moments.

Honestly, it will be interesting to see what Jake De Leon has in his future.  There is the WUW - Philippines Master Clash show next month in a tag team encounter.  He will be teaming up with Fabio Makisig against Nigel San Jose and Robin Sane.  The winner of this match will face a familiar face in Zack Sabre Jr. and El Phantasimo in Dexcon's May show!

Certainly, there could be another wrestling championship in mind!  Maybe he might be thinking of visiting another country.  All we know is that JDL will entertain the fans and do well whatever show and whatever country he visits.  That is for certain!

VPW Saigon Slam Update #2

Hello everyone.

An additional match has been added to Vietnam Pro Wrestling's Saigon Slam show.  The event will take place at the VAIB Studio D7 on Saturday, April 19th beginning at 7pm.

The Natural Classics, one of Australia's top tag teams in Tome and Stevie Filip, will take on The Classic Night (Billy & Bobby) under Phuong Nam's control.

Over the last few months, The Natural Classics have wrestled throughout Australia as well as in New Japan Pro Wrestling shows.  This blogger remembers their last appearance in Vietnam well.  They were part of a fatal four way tag team match in which Venomshank would win the VPW Tag Team Titles in October 2023!

There is a stipulation for this match.  If The Classic Night wins the match, they will be free of Phuong Nam's orders.  A loss means that they will never team up again!  The stakes are definitely high on this one.

For tickets and more information, please visit the Vietnam Pro Wrestling Facebook page.  Thank you.

Real Global Threat

(This blogger may be changing the pic soon)

Hello everyone.

Pro wrestling has had its share of factions, stables and alliances over the years.  When one least expects it, one comes along out of the blue, and is surprising.

This blogger remembers a group back in May 1996 called the nWo.  Monday nights were huge in America with the ratings between WWE and WCW.  There would be an overlapping of shows so unless you had two televisions, you weren't able to see both at the same time.

The WWE wrestling names of Razor Ramon and Diesel wrestled in their final matches with the company in early May 1996.  It has never been determined if their contracts ran out or they jumped ship.  The following week, Scott Hall (Razor Ramon) appeared on a WCW Nitro show and created a lot of havoc.  He interrupted a match and was creating havoc with Eric Bischoff, the announcer (WCW owner and recently retired from wrestling altogether).

Two weeks later, it was determined that Scott Hall and Kevin Nash (Diesel) had signed with WCW shortly leaving WWE.  Nash would appear and at the time, the duo would initially be called The Outsiders.  Over time, several wrestlers would join the group led by Hulk Hogan who turned heel.  It was then that The Outsiders changed their group name to the nWo.

Over the past weekend at the SETUP Thailand pro wrestling event, EP21 Double Cross, there was a different type of development that has the fans in Bangkok and throughout the Southeast Asia area buzzing.

There was a SETUP Openweight Title Match between the champion, Andruew Tang and Jonathan Johnson.  This blogger wasn't there at the show.  However, reels show that a third party, SETUP's Shivam, interrupted the referee's count at two by pulling him out of the ring.  It so happens that the referee gets knocked woozy by Shivam's blow.

Prior to the show, it was announced by SETUP Thailand's management team that Shivam was to be barred from ringside for the match.  This was from an incident involving Shivam, Johnson and Tang at last November's final show of the year.

Shivam enters the ring with both Johnson and Tang still in the ring.  Johnson attempts to closeline Shivam, misses, and Shivam nails him coming off the ropes.  Eventually, Tang pins Johnson and retains the title.

That wasn't enough however.  Shivam would yell out to the crowd that there would be a "takeover" of the local wrestling industry.  He and Tang would form an "alliance" known as Real Global Threat.  Then, both Shivam and Tang, following the announcement would continue to punish Jonathan.  The referee, wrestlers and some staff try to come in and break it up, all to no avail.  Finally, Jake De Leon, a wrestler from the Philippines comes in and makes the save.  He had appeared at the show and wrestled Shivam in an earlier match that night.

It will be interesting to see how the Real Global Threat situation will play out.  You have two wrestlers, Shivam and Andruew Tang, who are both champions.  They wrestle for different promotions.  The two have faced each other in singles matches, but not as a team before.

Also, it will interesting how SETUP management will deal with this one.  It's been recorded that Jonathan Johnson wants a match regarding both wrestlers.  Will Jake De Leon return to be Jonathan's partner?

In the meantime, who knows what Real Global Threat night do.  There are numerous promotions throughout Southeast Asia.  Maybe it could be a future SPW show.  Perhaps, they could fly to Vietnam or the Philippines.

It will be interesting.  I remember the nWo group lasted roughly four years.  This "alliance" might last awhile.

VPW Saigon Slam Update #1

Hello everyone.

Vietnam Pro Wrestling's next event, VPW Saigon Slam, will take place on Saturday, April 19th.  The location is the VAIB Studio D7 and show time is at 7pm.

One match has been made.  The British Horror, fresh off a victory, will face VPW Openweight Champion, Hy Draco for the title.

In the last show, The British Horror defeated fan favorite, Rocky Huynh.  He has a three match win streak with his last defeat to Khoa Truong last June.  He will be shooting for his first singles title.

Hy Draco was victorious in an eight man tag team event.  This will be his second defense of the title he won last October over Ares.  He defeated Long Xiumin in his first defense in the November show.

For tickets and more information, please visit the Vietnam Pro Wrestling Facebook page.  Thank you.

WUW Philippines Master Clash Update #6

Hello everyone.

A major match has been added for the WUW Philippines Master Clash show scheduled for Saturday, April 5th.  The location is the Brawl Pit Bulusan in Quezon City, PH. beginning at 6pm.

Back last November at the PUSO Wrestling's final show of 2024, El Kapitunero won an important match.  The reward would be the number one contender spot for the Pusong Pinoy Wrestling Championship.

Because he was involved in a major tag team match at the last month's Dexcon show earlier in the month, he would be given the opportunity the next time the championship was on the line.  It just so happens to be this show.

In the same Dexcon show, Main Maxx would successfully make his first title defense by defeating Dr. Gore from SPW.

The upcoming title match will be a submission match.  Now, some people will think that is in Main Maxx's favor because he's bigger and possibly stronger than El Kapitunero.  However, this blogger and fan knows that El Kapitunero, pound for pound, is one of the strongest wrestlers for his stature in all of Southeast Asia.  He has proven time and time again to have the heart of a champion!

That being said, tickets are still available for the show.  Please visit the World Underground Wrestling Philippines - WUW Philippines Facebook page.  Thank you.

TOP Dojo Overheat Update #2

Hello everyone.

TOP Dojo has announced an additional match for it's show TOP Dojo: Overheat.  The event will take place on Sunday, April 6th, 12:30pm at the Motorway Dojo near the ARL Hua Mak Station.

Best Boonpa of Revolution Squad will take on, what turns out to be former member of the group, Jay Yuu.  It is a singles match, one fall with a 20 minute time limit.

Word has it that Jay Yuu, who was injured prior to the last show, left the group.  He felt that he could be strong by going solo and not being part of Revolution Squad.

Best Boonpa looked at this as a betrayal and decided to challenge him after the end of the last show.  The match has been accepted.

For tickets and more information, please visit the TOP Dojo - Thailand Origin Pro Wrestling Facebook page.  Thank you.

SETUP Thailand EP21 Double Cross Results

Hello everyone.

Here are the results from SETUP Thailand's show, EP21 Double Cross.  The show took place this past Saturday night, March 22nd at The Circus Studio.  Normally, I don't do a recap unless this blogger was at the event.  However, this recap is important in various ways.

The show began with a tribute to Masa Takanashi by playing his intro song.  He took part in SETUP's very first show back in January 2020 and is a very familiar face to the fans in Thailand and throughout all of Asia.

Takanashi suffered an unfortunate neck injury a few days ago at a show in Japan.  All of us who have read about, or know him, we're thinking, praying, and are hoping for the best.  Our thought and prayers are with him at this time.

On to the show, this blogger heard, read and saw some clips.  It was wild to say the least.  A loud and boisterous crowd of 141 fans saw some great action.   The second, third and fourth matches were a part of the Uprising Series which will give everyone some much needed experience.

The final three matches had some great action and also, very interesting endings.  None of the SETUP Titles changed hands, but there were interesting developments that happened.  This blogger wasn't there, but word does get back, especially from about 12,800 kilometers away...

There was a chair shot that ended one match.

There was a referee, for some reason, that stopped a count in a tag match.  Heard some rumor going around that the referee was paid.

And then there was some interference from a wrestler who wasn't supposed to be at ringside.  Not only that, he aligned with another wrestler after the match to become a group called the Real Global Threat.  Am hearing that RGT want to take over the local wrestling industry.

This fan, while doing this post is supposed to be unbiased here.  However, thanks to this blogger's regional wrestling hero, JDL, he stopped RGT before any further damage was done.  This blogger hears that our regional wrestling hero will team up with Jonathan Johnson and have challenged RGT to a match scheduled this coming May.

AND.......if some things can be worked out back in America, this blogger WILL be visiting Thailand AND will be at the May show!  I want to thank several fans who shared some insights with the show as well as sharing pics, reels and more.  Also, thank you to SETUP Thailand Pro Wrestling, to Pumi, the staff, and to all the wrestlers and fans involved.  It makes doing this post a whole lot easier to do.

Here are the results...

Anont Alonzo d. "Gatekeeper" Hyde in an open challenge.

Flame Drake and Gunn wrestled to a 10 minute time limit draw.
